On 21 February 2019 at the European Commission headquarters in Brussels, the President of the Expert Council of the Insurance Supervision Agency Mr. Klime Poposki met with Mr. Kyriacos Charalambous, member of the Cabinet of Commissioner Johannes Hahn. The purpose of the working meeting was the issues of regional development of the insurance sector in the countries of the Western Balkans. Western Balkan countries have the lowest level of insurance development compared to the EU average, but in the last 10 years they have seen higher growth rates than average growth rates in the EU region. The great potential for future development, the need to strengthen greater regional cooperation among the countries of the Western Balkans in the implementation of regional projects to support the growth of the insurance sector, as well as harmonization with the EU insurance legislation were discussed. The need for more intensive regional cooperation and joint activities and measures for the promotion of the insurance industry in the Western Balkan region was also discussed, and whether that can be taken forward under the Regional Economic Area initiative with the Regional Co-operation Council and the framework of the Berlin process. |
