Conference of EUROPA RE, “Development of insurance markets in Southeastern Europe in the aspect of weather and catastrophe risk insurance: From concept to reality” |

 The first regional conference of EUROPA RE, "Development of insurance markets in Southeastern Europe in the aspect of weather and catastrophe risk insurance: From concept to reality" was held in Hotel Granit in Ohrid, from 12.10 – 15.10.2011.
The conference was jointly organized by the World Bank, UNISDR (United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction), State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of Switzerland and the Insurance Supervision Agency of the Republic of Macedonia.
The conference was attended by over 100 representatives from various institutions important for the insurance industry. Many high state representatives and insurance market regulatory authorities from Macedonia, Serbia and Albania were present, as well as representatives of insurance undertakings and technological companies for risk mapping. Also, the conference was attended by representatives from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova and Montenegro.
During this three-day conference, the representatives explained thoroughly the process of building markets for weather and catastrophe risk insurance in Southeastern Europe. First, the products should be approachable in terms of price and adequate risk types. Second, the products should be standardized in all member-states and have the same quality. Third, the process of buying and selling insurance products, as well as payment of claim receivables, must be simple for the insurance undertakings and the clients.
